Two Ridgewood girls soccer players and one River Ridge player have been suspended six weeks for fighting during a game, according to the Florida High School Athletic Association.
The unsportsmanlike conduct report provided to the FHSAA after Thursday’s game states that a River Ridge player was running with the ball toward the goal when a Ridgewood player tried to take it. “The challenge started as a fair challenge and then escalated quickly into each player pushing each other …and then went immediately to punches being thrown.” Ridgewood’s goalkeeper joined the fray, also throwing punches, according to the report. All names were redacted.
Both teams’ coaches worked to break up the fight; all three players received red cards and did not finish the game, which River Ridge won 8-0.
The Royal Knights (6-5) are currently fourth in Class 3A, District 8. The Rams are 0-10.
Neither coach immediately responded to requests for comment.
