Dave Moore has resigned as Shorecrest's football coach after two seasons, according to athletic director Tripp Welbourne. Moore made the school aware of his decision on Friday.
Moore was 9-9 with the Chargers, who played as an independent in 2012 and went 7-3. They rejoined the Florida High School Athletic Association in 2013 and were 2-6 last season, 0-4 in Class 3A, District 5.
"I didn't really see this coming but we are thankful for the two years that Coach Moore was with us," Welbourne said. "We'll start the process of trying to find a new coach."
Welbourne said he will accept applications for the next two weeks or so before conducting interviews.
Moore, 44, took over for longtime coach Phil Hayford. He was a big-name hire for the school after spending 15 years in the NFL, 13 of which with the Buccaneers (1992-2001, 2004-06). He is also a color analyst for Bucs radio broadcasts and owns Moore Resources Insurance in St. Petersburg.
Moore was playing in a charity golf tournament and not immediately available for comment.
