HomeTeam Hot Shots
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.
Female Hot Shot: Cristina Snyder, Holy Names
Sport: Basketball
Skinny: Snyder hit a school-record nine 3-pointers to lead Academy of the Holy Names to a win against Indian Rocks Christian on Jan. 11. She finished the game with 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting. The senior guard, who averages 10.5 points per game, also knocked down five from long range in a Nov. 20 win against Tampa Prep.
Male Hot Shot: Juwan Durham, Tampa Prep
Sport: Basketball
Skinny: As one of the country’s top sophomores, Durham’s success shouldn’t be surprising. But the 6-foot-8 forward reached a new peak with three consecutive triple doubles, including a 24-point, 17-rebound, 11-block game against Berkeley Prep and 19-11-11 against Brooks DeBartolo. “He was much more active,” Terrapins coach Joe Fenlon said. “He used his teammates better.” Durham drew double and triple teams and kicked the ball out to open teammates, who drilled outside shots. That forced defenders to respect them — and gave more one-on-one looks for Durham. He has scored in double figures every game this season and is averaging 19.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 6.4 blocks.
