HOLIDAY - A crowd of students packed in bleachers urged Willie Barrett to open national signing day with a speech. When he did speak, it was so quietly no one could hear him.
But he had no problem signing his name on the dotted line. Barrett signed with Marist, which he visited and committed to just weeks ago.
Wearing a Marist ski hat – which he’ll probably need on the New York campus – Barrett signed as his mother, Luzenia Harris, looked on.
“I’m a proud, proud mom,” Harris said. “I always knew he would be somebody important, but I never thought ...” She dropped off for a moment, overcome. “And now he’s going to Marist.”
Barrett’s career total of 3,515 all-purpose and 2,963 rushing yards are the most any player has earned in Anclote history.
