Largo defensive back Cordell Hudson and linebacker Frankie Hernandez had some anxious moments Tuesday night.
“Frankie and I were on the phone with each around midnight just talking about what (signing day) would be like,” Hudson said. “We’re still in disbelief. It’s unexplainable, something we couldn’t imagine as freshmen. We’re just thankful for the opportunity.”
Hudson (Syracuse) and Harnandez (Marshall) were joined by receiver Raheem Harvey (Florida International) as they each signed in the cafeteria. Usually, the Packers hold the ceremony in the weight room or a conference room but Hudson suggested a bigger venue in order to have more family and friends attend.
There were more than 60 people who showed, including former players and members of the Ridgecrest community.
“So many people were here I thought I was getting drafted and going to the league,” Harvey said.
Hudson could be going to even bigger things. He has more than 4.0 weighted GPA and takes dual enrollment classes at St. Petersburg College, where he’ll graduate this spring with an associate in arts degree.
“I tell (Hudson) all the time that he’ll be the next president,” Largo coach Rick Rodriguez said.
