Times’ super 7
Records through Wednesday
1. Jesuit (7-0): The Tigers have three double-digit wins, but they’ll have their work cut out for them with back-to-back tough opponents in IMG Academy and Tampa Catholic.
2. Steinbrenner (5-1): The Warriors’ only loss so far came to a strong Wiregrass Ranch team, foreshadowing a possible contentious district.
3. Durant (4-0): Losing second-round draft pick Tyler Danish was certainly a blow, but the Cougars haven’t seemed to skip a beat, allowing just three runs in four games and outscoring opponents 36-3.
4. Alonso (5-0): Getting out of a strong district has been an issue for the Ravens the past two seasons, but they’ve started on the right foot, beating district opponents Newsome, Wharton and Jefferson.
5. Tampa Catholic (3-0): The Crusaders have done some traveling to take on big opponents, but perhaps the biggest yet will be Friday against a Jesuit team coming from just 3 miles down the road.
6. King (5-1): Outfielder Michael Taylor, who boasts a .600 average, and infielder Bubby Terp, who has two home runs, have been huge at the plate for King, which is coming off a state-semifinal campaign.
7. Tampa Prep (6-1): The Terrapins have shined offensively, scoring at least five runs in six of seven games and recording a combined .323 batting average.
In the conversation: Bloomingdale (4-1), Leto (4-0), Seffner Christian (4-2), Carrollwood Day (3-1), Plant City (4-2)
