Springstead's Bobby Harris, two-time medalist and Tampa Bay's best high jumper, won his first state championship at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Wednesday, he made it official -- he'll compete in that same stadium for college.

Harris, the defending Class 3A state champion in the jump, signed with UNF, choosing the Ospreys over USF, South Alabama, Wingate and South Dakota.

Harris' choice came down to where he felt the most wanted. During the recruiting process, Harris and UNF assistant Greg Krupa developed a strong relationship that sold the Eagle on becoming an Osprey.

The holder of the Springstead record in the high jump, Harris won a silver medal in 2012 and followed that up with last year' gold medal performance. In less than ideal conditions, he jumped 6 feet, 2 inches  to win the title, though his personal best is 6-9 and he routinely high jumped 6-6.

Harris already owns a 6-8 high jump this season in a winning performance at the Charles Davis Invitational, and came up short in three attempts at 6-10.

A 4.0 student, Harris will pursue a degree in Biomedical Science with the hopes of studying pharmacy in graduate school.
