Super 7
Records through Wednesday.
1. King (14-2): The Lions’ only losses of the season have been one-run games against strong Hillsborough and Plant teams, making King the team to beat in Hillsborough County.
2. Alonso (15-2): The Ravens have rolled since losing big to Plant in the Saladino Tournament, winning their past three games and outscoring opponents 15-4 in the process.
3. Jesuit (13-2): The Tigers lost nine players to season-long suspensions, but proved they can still be successful when they beat district opponent Robinson in extra innings Wednesday.
4. Plant (13-5): The Panthers have struggled since winning the Saladino title, dropping three of their past five games. But Plant’s two wins were shutouts, and it still boasts one of the best hitters in town in centerfielder Kyle Tucker.
5. Steinbrenner (11-3): Steinbrenner drops a bit after losing to district opponent Wiregrass Ranch in a 10-run mercy rule, but in the Warriors’ defense, their Pasco County neighbors have proven to be a tough team to top this season.
6. Durant (11-3): The Cougars hit a rough patch during Saladino Tournament play, but have since rebounded, winning all five games and taking the top spot in Class 7A, District 7.
7. Hillsborough (11-4): The Terriers recently went on a five-game win streak, which included a victory against the top-ranked Lions, but it was snapped Wednesday by Jefferson.
In the conversation: Jefferson (13-6), Brandon (10-7), Strawberry Crest (12-7), Sickles (9-5), Tampa Catholic (6-4), Tampa Prep (11-6)
