North Suncoast: Baseball super 7, stats

Baseball super 7
Records through Wednesday.
1. River Ridge (15-4, 11-2): We’re not sure the Royal Knights have ever graced the top spot in this super 7, but they are deserving. Not only have they won five straight and 10 of their past 11, but the Royal Knights also boast the area’s top hitter and pitcher: Jason Heinrich.
2. Hernando (18-3, 12-0): The Leopards are 18-0 in games when they score more than one run. If the bats can match the arms in the postseason, you have to like their chances at making a run.
3. Wiregrass Ranch (14-5, 5-3): Playing for the No. 1 seed in 7A-8, the Bulls lost to Gaither for the second time. That makes a mess out of the district, where four teams finished 5-3 in league play. Anyone have a coin?
4. Land O’Lakes (12-7, 8-5): Since Tommy Guglielmello has joined the starting rotation, he is 3-0 with six hits allowed and 19 strikeouts in 16 innings — and a 0.00 ERA. Oh, and the Gators are 6-2 and have surged back into the 5A-8 picture.
5. Bishop McLaughlin (13-7, 5-3): The Hurricanes peaking? They have scored in double figures four straight games for the first time since 2011, clinching the No. 2 seed in the district in the process.
6. Wesley Chapel (14-6, 8-4): The Wildcats’ seven-game win streak came to an end against Mitchell. But despite being outscored 74-71 in district games, Wesley Chapel has a firm hold on the No. 2 seed.
7. Vacant: Considering Central (13-8), Pasco (13-8), Sunlake (12-7) and Mitchell (12-8) are indistinguishable, and you could throw Fivay (11-9) in there as well, we’re abstaining from picking a No. 7. So forget district seeding, folks, this last week is for the final spot in next week’s final super 7. Does it get any bigger?
