Land O'Lakes, Gulf lead North Suncoast cross country roundup

Rounding up North Suncoast cross country from the weekend…

Anclote’s Spencer Guerette had the top Pasco County performance at his school’s invitational. He took third (17:44.8) to lead the Sharks.

Gulf’s boys placed fourth overall with two runners in the top 20. Nick Buliga finished fourth (17:45.9), and teammate James Raymond was 18th (18:39.3).

Mitchell’s came in seventh as a team, behind leading runner Troy Shea (20th, 18:42.8). Other North Suncoast notables were Fivay’s Kenneth Walker (12th, 18:25.8) and Ridgewood’s John Eckles (13th, 18:29.4).

Gulf and Mitchell were also the top two girls teams at the meet.

Gulf standout Kari Grippo placed third (21:30.1) to lead the Buccaneers to a fifth-place finish.

Mitchell claimed ninth behind a fifth-place finish from Emily Kerns (21:38.0) and a 12th-place run by Elaina Cancello (12th, 22:35.0).

Alyssa Turner took 16th for Wesley Chapel (22:45.9) to help the Wildcats earn 10th place.

Land O’Lakes and Nature Coast finished 1-2 in the Run with the Bulls Invitational in Wesley Chapel. Gators juniors Travis Nichols (first, 16:13) and Tyler Stahl (second, 16:24) led the charge, just ahead of teammate Jake Poore (fourth, 16:39) and Steven Barnabei (ninth, 17:10).

The Sharks’ James Harkless, Kevin Ciccone and Cody Van Natter  claimed spots 5-7, and Springstead’s Carl Zee took 10th to help the Eagles place fourth.

Wiregrass Ranch’s girls starred at their event to claim first with three runners in the top seven: Elise Cedre (first, 19:49.72), Berlin Waters (second, 19:57.44) and Addie Cornwell (seventh, 20:24.84).

Springstead’s Tiana Newton finished sixth (20:22.64), and Nature Coast’s Crystal Burchhardt, Alexa Lacy and Brielle Perlingierei all finished in the top 10 for the runner-up Sharks.

At the Whispering Pines Invitational in Inverness, Hernando freshmen Charles Steinkamp and Tyler Pantley took 27th and 28th (18:59). Central’s top boy was Ben Orner, who finished 40th.

Central sophomore Jenna Barbee had the best area finish for the girls, coming in 16th (22:35.81). The Leopards’ Cindy Cacares finished 18th (22:42.71), and Tabitha Loose came in 26th.
