TAMPA — Brandon took control early in unfavorable playing conditions and handed the Chiefs a loss on their homecoming.

Key drive: Up 7-0 in the second quarter, Brandon stopped Chamberlain on fourth and 1 from the Chiefs 29. Soon after, quarterback Isaiah Alexander ran it in from the 2 to make it 14-0.

Stars of the game: Eagles linebacker Mason Washington returned a fumble 26 yards for their first score. Teammate Jordan Green had two interceptions. Both came against Reggie Wester, who replaced an injured Seth Jordan.

Stats of the game: Jordan completed two long passes. One, for 47 yards to the Eagles 20, went to Nate Poole. But Chamberlain then turned it over on downs. The other, for 37, went to DJ Daniels to the Eagles 10. Soon after, Jordan thew an interception in the end zone.

Final word:“My heart going, I have to get the ball was my thoughts during that fumble. It feels good winning because the team I came from previously (Spoto) didn’t win any games. And to be winning a game on another school’s homecoming night is just a blessing.” — Washington
