Wharton senior CB Vernon Hargreaves III and retiring Robinson coach Mike DePue fell a few votes shy in the voting for the state's Mr. Football and coach of the year honors, respectively.
Hargreaves, recently chosen the state's Class 8A player of the year in a statewide ballot sponsored by Florida Dairy Farmers, placed fourth (64 points) among eight finalists in a final round of voting for the Mr. Football award. Yulee senior RB Derrick Henry, an Alabama commitment who set state single-season marks for rushing yardage (4,261) and touchdowns (55), won the honor (221 points).
Voting was done by a panel of Florida prep coaches and media representatives.
DePue, who led the Knights to a 12-2 record and 5A state semifinals berth in his final season, finished in a tie for third (78 points). Miami Washington coach Tim "Ice" Harris, who led the Tornadoes (14-1) to the 4A state title, won the award (169 points).
