Player of the Year
OH Ashlyn MacGregor, Sr., Tarpon Springs
Why we picked her: No player had a bigger impact on her team than MacGregor. “With Ashlyn we won 23 games. Without her we might have won 10,” coach Patrick Sneed said. She had 466 kills in 89 games, 5.2 per game. MacGregor also led the team with 100 blocks and had 42 aces. In the district final against Mitchell, she had 38 kills and eight blocks. On a team with only two club players, MacGregor had to perform most every night.
Most impressive accomplishments: MacGregor said two things stood out this season. The first was getting her 1,000th career kill. The other was being named most valuable player at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All Star game at Saint Leo University.
Did you know? MacGregor didn’t start seriously playing volleyball until her freshman year. She was cut from her sixth-grade volleyball team. As a freshman on the Tarpon Springs varsity she admitted, “I wasn’t very good.”
Future plans: She doesn’t know where yet, but MacGregor said the plan is to play volleyball at a Division I school.
