For the 10th consecutive year, one of the area's most intense private-school feuds will be celebrated with a festival of sorts.
The Headmasters' Challenge, pitting Berkeley Prep against Tampa Prep in 16 different contests spanning three levels (middle school, JV, varsity), will be staged Saturday on the Buccaneers' campus. All events are free.
Action begins at 8 a.m. and will continue for roughly eight hours, culminating with the Bucs-Terrapins varsity boys basketball contest at 2:30 in the Straz Family Field House.
Competition in hoops, wrestling and soccer will be waged. The schools receive two points for a varsity victory and one for a sub-varsity triumph. Berkeley leads the overall series, 5-4, but Tampa Prep has won the last two challenges.
The varsity schedule:
Wrestling -- 10 a.m. (Straz Family Field House)
Girls Soccer -- 11:30 (Newman Stadium)
Girls Basketball -- 1 p.m. (Straz Family Field House)
Boys Soccer -- 1:30 p.m. (Newman Stadium)
