Gaither senior receiver Shug Oyegunle, who was ranked No. 65 in the Times’ HomeTeam 100, has committed to Ball State.
Oyegunle made an official visit to Ball State last weekend and had planned another trip to Florida Atlantic for this weekend. It wasn’t immediately clear if he still planned to make that visit.
“Committed to the university of BALL STATE #blessed #CardNation #ChirpChirp,” Oyegunle said via Twitter on Wednesday.
A few minutes later, Ball State coach Pete Lembo tweetted: “we are very excited about the young man from Tampa that committed to join us today. He should be a great addition to our receiver corps."
Oyegunle had 21 receptions for 468 yards and seven touchdowns, and 36 rushes for 227 yards and another score as a senior for the Cowboys (8-3). He also had an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Rated a two-star recruit by Rivals, the 5-foot-11, 175-pounder also had offers Navy, Tennessee State, Western Michigan and several smaller schools. He committed to Ball State the day after his teammate Ernest Suttles, a defensive end, said he planned to accept a scholarship offer to Nebraska.
