For seven months, St. Petersburg offensive lineman/tight end Jeremy Kerr stayed committed to Miami.

On Wednesday, Kerr changed his mind, announcing he was committing to FSU.

“A big weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” he said via his Twitter account.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound prospect visited the Seminoles on Jan. 11 and spent the past two weeks contemplating his decision. In June, Kerr committed to Miami after attending the Al Golden camp in Coral Gables.

Kerr, used more as a blocking tight end as a junior, had three receptions for 64 yards a touchdown in 2011. Still, he got a lot of attention from colleges due to his size and ability to stand out at camps, where he earned multiple tight end MVP awards, including in Miami.

Kerr had five offers this past spring, including Purdue, UConn and Wake Forest. Miami, though, was the first to offer in April 2012 when Kerr attended the Hurricanes' spring game. Soon after, Miami jumped to the top of his list.

But the impending sanctions on the Hurricanes' football program had him weighing his options.

"Very hard,'' Kerr said of his decision via text. "It took me a lot of thinking time and praying and talking to family and friends. Ultimately it's the best decision for me.''
