Four North Suncoast girls basketball players have been honored by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association.
Bishop McLaughlin freshman Brielle Downing was named the Class 3A, District 10 player of the year. As a freshman, she set new school records in scoring, scoring average, 3-pointers, free throw percentage and assists. She averaged 18.8 points and 5.3 steals per game.
Pasco junior Brianca Roberts was the district’s 5A player of the year. Her 17.3 points and 4.5 assists per game helped the Pirates finish the regular season unbeaten and qualify for the playoffs.
Land O’Lakes senior Sarah Nichols took the honors in 6A. She averaged a team-best 10.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game during the Gators’ 11-10 campaign.
Wiregrass Ranch sophomore standout Amanda Melosky was the 7A recipient. She averaged a double-double (14.7 points, 10.3 rebounds) while shooting 47 percent from the field.
Roberts and Downing were the district’s overall co-players of the year.
