Andrew Wiggins is, according to some, Canada's version of Michael Jordan and the best high school basketball player in the world.
And if he bypasses college offers from Kentucky, Duke and his presumed favorite Florida State, many more say he is likely to be the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
At 6-foot-8, the son of former FSU star Mitchell Wiggins is still growing, into mythic proportions it would appear.
On Feb. 22 and 23, local basketball fans will get two chances to see the phenom in action as he and his Huntington (W.Va.) Prep teammates visit Tampa Bay for the two-day Inaugural Beast Athletics/Oldsmar Christian Shootout.
Huntington Prep also features 6-5 sophomore Montaque Gill-Ceasar, a 4-star recruit already receiving interest from the nation's top basketball programs.
With a sellout crowd expected at Oldsmar Christian on the shootout's opening night, which seats roughly 700 fans, event organizer and Eagles coach Jordan Fair began pre-selling 150 tickets on Wednesday for $7.
The remaining tickets will be sold to the walk-up crowd the night of the game for $8.
Following the 6:30 p.m. match-up on Feb. 22 between Gainesville's The Rock and Georgia's Faith Baptist, Huntington Prep -- ranked No. 8 in the country in the latest USA Today basketball poll -- plays Oldsmar Christian at 8 p.m.
The following day Oldsmar Christian plays Faith Baptist at 2 p.m., followed by Huntington Prep against The Rock.
We don't recall a bigger name in high school basketball basketball coming to Tampa Bay since Orlando Cypress Creek and Amare Stoudemire played at the old Hooters tournament at the old Bayfront Center in 2001.
Here's some stories on Wiggins right here andright here.
And naturally, here's his official Hoopmixtape, with over one million views.
Fair says the event will showcase 22 Division I basketball players that have already signed with schools like Tennessee, Baylor, Arkansas, FSU, Georgia and Kansas.
