Baseball super seven
Records through Wednesday
1. Jesuit (21-0): One of the state’s toughest stretches awaits Tigers near the end of the regular season, including Seminole (15-6), Sarasota (16-5) and nationally-ranked Venice (18-2).
2. Steinbrenner (18-1): Hard not to look ahead to the Warriors’ regular-season finale against Jefferson on Thursday.
3. King (17-3): Jim Macaluso’s first team to go through district play undefeated in 38 years will enter the 6A-11 tournament without him following his suspension for an ejection. Bad timing.
4. Durant (15-5): Cougars will enter the 8A-7 tournament as favorites because of ace Tyler Danish. But their offense has struggled at times, making them susceptible to an upset.
5. Hillsborough (15-5): Terriers are closing the regular season on roll. They’ve won six straight, including 4-1 over 7A-8 leader Brandon.
6. Brandon (15-6): Stumbling down the stretch, with losses in two of past three. But the Eagles rebounded Tuesday with senior Eric Hinostroza’s no-hitter against Armwood.
7. Plant (13-6): As expected, this young team is putting it together in time for the postseason. The Panthers have won four straight, including victories over Alonso and Bloomingdale.
In the conversation: Newsome (14-6), Jefferson (14-7), Strawberry Crest (15-8), Alonso (12-8), Bloomingdale (13-9), Leto (13-8), Tampa Catholic (14-9), Tampa Prep (14-8).
