Times’ super 7
Records and stats through Wednesday
1. Jesuit (9-1): The Tigers’ only loss came to Tampa Catholic because of a two-out, walk-off double, but the Tigers still have proven to be the best team in town.
2. Steinbrenner (6-1): The Warriors haven’t skipped a beat since their only loss to district rival Wiregrass Ranch, outscoring their past three opponents 19-1.
3. King (8-0): The Lions have averaged more than eight runs per game and remain Hillsborough County’s only undefeated team.
4. Alonso (7-1): The Ravens are off to a good start and should keep it up now that ace Alex Faedo, who didn’t pitch the first few weeks of the season because of an injury, is back on the mound.
5. Tampa Catholic (3-3): The Crusaders pulled off a miraculous, come-from-behind victory against rival Jesuit, but have faltered since, losing to Berkeley Prep and IMG Academy.
6. Hillsborough (6-1): The Terriers’ only loss was to King, and they should be able to remain competitive with the Lions in the tough Class 6A, District 9.
7. Tampa Prep (8-1): Only half of the Terrapins’ wins have been against teams with winning records, but Tampa Prep has shown offensive consistency to start the season.
In the conversation: Durant (5-1), Brandon (5-3), Leto (5-2), Berkeley Prep (6-5), Plant (5-2), Sickles (5-2)
