Jesuit’s Nick Catchur and Tampa Catholic’s Nicole Carroll, the defending Class 2A state champions in the pole vault, each placed among the top three in their signature event at the Florida Relays this past weekend.
Catcher cleared 14 feet, 6 inches to place second. Osceola’s Carson Waters also vaulted 14-6, but hit that mark after Catchur to finish third. Newsome’s David Kornitzer was fifth (13-6).
Carroll was third, clearing 11-6 ahead of Osceola’s Jen Kistemaker, who was fifth.
Admiral Farragut’s Brittany McGee was third in the long jump (18-3.5) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.55).
Bloomingdale’s distance medley team of Andrew LeBlanc, Matt Butler, Kevin Heron and John Bryant took third in 10:37.46. The same quartet also was third in the 4x800 (7:51.88). Robinson’s Jack Rogers was sixth in the 1,600 in 4:20.39. Canterbury’s Chris Olsen was fifth in the discus (168-1).
In the men’s 100, Baylor’s Trayvon Bromell, a former standout at Gibbs, finished third in 10.16. The top two finishers, Tony McQuay (10.13) and James Ellington (10.16), each ran in the 2012 Olympics.
