SEMINOLE — The start of this game certainly didn’t foreshadow the finish. And what a finish.
Three Seminole turnovers led to a 14-0 Palm Harbor University lead, but the Warhawks pounded back. Aaron Dever’s deft 12-yard touchdown toss to Matthew Wonsick capped a huge comeback with 2:29 left. Tanner Vaughn’s third extra-point kick ended up being the winning margin — but not before a pulse-pounding finish.
Key drive: Seminole’s winning 59-yard march. After having two of his first three passes intercepted and converted into PHU touchdowns, Dever hit Ethan Roberts and Wonsick on clutch third-down passes before his poised, play-action game-decider.
Plays of the game: After Seminole’s touchdown, PHU’s Arkez Cason brought the kickoff to midfield, Brandon Swift hit Matt Caron for 29 yards, then the Hurricanes scored on Tanner Tinsley’s 1-yard wildcat touchdown. Going for the win with 1:11 left, senior Jamal Jackson pressured Swift and forced a leaping pass that fell incomplete.
Stars of the game: Jackson also forced a fumble, recovered by Juan Rivera, to set up Seminole’s winning drive. Dever connected on his final five passes, all but one on third or fourth down, and two going for touchdowns.
Stats of the game: Neither team punted. Seminole’s touchdown drives: 13 plays in 7:40; 11 plays in 6:49; and 11 plays in 6:35.
